Hey guys! Since I’ve been talking so much about my kitchen cabinets makeover, I thought I would share a quick and easy project we’ve done in the kitchen and throughout the house.
Although we love our air conditioning in the South, the air vents and vent returns can be somewhat of an eye sore. As you can see in the picture above, we have a large air return vent in a very noticeable area of the kitchen. We also have several floor vents along two walls around the kitchen table which had become rusty over the years.
Decorative Floor Vents
After the kitchen walls were painted a crisp Creme Brûlée with Bright White wainscoting, we changed out the air return vent covers and the floor vents for a more decorative look.
It’s an easy upgrade project which I think adds a lot of character to each room. Prices on floor vents and air return vent covers vary quite a bit depending on what the vents are made from, the size of the vent, and the quality. I suggest doing your research to find the quality you prefer at a price you can afford.
Decorative floor vents come in a variety of designs and finishes. We chose the Accord Floor Register with Marquis Design. These decorative floor vents are made out of cast iron and the finish we chose was pewter.
We also used these floor vents when we remodeled our old house. These vents are easy to open and close and have never rusted.
Note: In order to get the correct size you will need to remove the old floor vent and then measure the size of the duct opening.
Decorative vents come in a variety of styles and materials. For example, this Scrolled Plated Register is in a rubbed bronze finish.
You can also find floor registers which match your wood floors. This is a medium oak register.
Decorative Air Return Vent Covers
For the air return vent covers we went with Fancy Vents decorative vent covers. These are beautifully crafted, handmade vent covers which are built specifically for your dimensions.
Fancy Vents are built to fit the size of your air filter so ordering is a breeze. They are made of steel and cast iron and are powder coated for a lasting finish. Fancy Vents also come in a variety of designs and finishes. The “knob” unscrews and allows the grille to swing open for filter changes.
We chose Heather Grande in Matte Black Iron finish and have used these decorative vent covers throughout the house.
Rule of thumb: Always keep resale value in mind. You would never want to put cheap material in an expensive house or very expensive material in a lower priced house. A buyer will notice these details!
